Missouri biodiesel bill dead

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A bill that calls for a mandatory B5 biodiesel standard in Missouri has died in the state legislature.

The House Transportation Committee decided to kill the bill, which would have required that all diesel sold at the retail level be 5 percent biodiesel by July 2010.

Had the proposal become law, Missouri would have become the sixth state to enact at least a B2 requirement. They are: Louisiana, Oregon Washington, New Mexico, and Minnesota.

The latter state recently approved a B20 mandate by 2015.

Missouri currently requires gasoline to be sold with 10 percent ethanol.
