The Montana Department of Transportation said it is launching a new system to help truck drivers locate safe parking along the Interstate 90 corridor.

The truck parking availability information system (TPAIS) will provide real-time information about available parking spaces.

Information will display on electronic road signs and MDT’s system for seven rest areas. In addition, information will be available through in-cab displays and through the Drivewyze mobile apps.

MDT received just over $1 million in grant funding from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for the project.

Parking remains one of the most significant challenges facing the trucking industry. On March 4, the U.S. Department of Transportation is holding a virtual meeting of the National Coalition on Truck Parking
