More Barrie roads off limits to trucks?

BARRIE, Ont. — A proposal to expand the list of roads in Barrie, Ont. where trucks are not allowed has been sent back to the city’s community services committee for review.

According to the Barrie Examiner, the plan would ban heavy trucks on almost all residential streets. Currently, just 31 roads scattered throughout the city are off limits to commercial trucks.

There’s no time frame for the ‘permissive truck route’ system returning to council’s general committee, states the newspaper.

Signs would indicate where trucks are permitted to travel in Barrie. But it’ll be the responsibility of truckers to know which new roads are restricted.

If approved by council, the new permissive truck route would be included in the 2009 budget.
