More truckstops pumping out DEF

BRIGHTON, Mich. – There are now over 100 truckstops in the U.S. and Canada that offer diesel exhaust fluid for new, 2010 SCR trucks.

Pilot Travel Centers has 69 out of the 105 North American locations to have DEF pumps available, according to Integer Research, which runs the DEF site locator discoverDEF.com.

Texas has the most developed DEF pump network, with 11 locations, followed by Virginia with seven.

discoverDEF.com also lists over 3,000 locations that have packaged DEF, normally in 1 or 2.5 gallon jugs.

Integer Research also reports that DEF consumption by class 4 to 8 vehicles reached 2.3 million gallons in the month of December 2010.

August and September recorded the strongest growth in 2010, as manufacturers worked through 2009-model engine overhangs.

Meanwhile, one of North America’s largest DEF suppliers Terra Environmental Technologies (TET) increased the capacity of its TerraCair DEF production plant at Woodward, Okla. to 30 million gallons of DEF per year (at full capacity).

In addition to the facility in Oklahoma, TerraCair is produced at CF Industries’ nitrogen plants in Courtright, Ont., which is also planning to expand capacity.
