MTA crowns top wheelmen and Driver OTY

WINNIPEG – Five skilled drivers beat out 34 other truck pilots to win the Manitoba Trucking Driving Championships in their respective categories.

Drivers in five classes participated in three different tests (written test, pre-trips/defects, and the track) throughout the of the day.

Winners are:

Ken Wiebe, EBD Enterprises (super B train). He also won the Grand Champion title and the Bjornson Memorial award.

He was joined by Chad Kitkowski, Canadian Freightways (straight truck); Brian Hrabarchuk, Con-Way Freight Canada (single-single); John Klassen, W.M. Dyck & Sons, (single-tandem ); Howard McAfee, H&T Trucking (tandem-tandem

The First Time Entrant: acknowledgement went to Marc Cohen of Big Freight Systems.

TST Overland Express won the Team Award.

Meanwhile, the Manitoba Trucking Association named William DeGroot of Arnold Bros. Transport as its 2011 MTA-Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year.
