MTA establishes social media presence

WINNIPEG, Man. — The Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) is now tweeting.

As part of a new media initiative, the MTA is joining the expanding world of social media. It now has a Facebook page and Twitter feed, becoming one of the first trucking associations in Canada to leverage social media to promote the industry and hopefully to attract young people to careers in trucking, the association announced.

The MTA can be found on Twitter at Twitter.com/truckingMB while its Facebook page can be found by searching for ‘Manitoba Trucking Association.’

The social media efforts are being headed by Chris Gmiterek, marketing and communications coordinator with MTA.

“We wanted to take an existing, extremely successful platform and adapt it to our needs,” he said. “With the rise social media we figured the best place to start would be with Facebook and Twitter, gauge that success and then plot our expansion to other vehicles based on response.”

The association says it is also looking at getting involved with YouTube, Flickr and foursquare.
