WINNIPEG, Man. — The Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) and Volvo Trucks Canada has named Michael Chudobiak of Gardewine North the MTA Driver of the Year.

The announcement was made at the MTA’s Awards Banquet on May 29 and recognizes Chudobiak’s 30-year driving career as well as his exceptional customer service skills and willingness to assist other drivers.

Chudobiak is a P&D driver in the Dauphin, Man. area who has only had one small accident during his career and that occurred many years ago. His employers say he delivers outstanding customer service to shippers and receivers in the Dauphin, Grandview and Gilbert Plain’s areas and has received many testimonials from customers.

His own terminal manager has said Chudobiak "works well with others and shows respect and consideration for his customers…and is a good ambassador for our company." He also serves as the company’s safety officer and lead hand at Gardewine North in Dauphin. Chudobiak has completed his Transportation of Dangerous Goods training and has received a Million Mile Award in 1999. He uses his skills to train other drivers at his terminal.

Despite all that, Chudobiak still finds time to work in his community, coaching and assisting with local sports. He also decorates his Gardewine truck for participation in the Santa Claus Parade and volunteers with other local causes.

Chudobiak has a wife, Judy, and two children Dori and Derek. He enjoys hunting, fishing, water-skiing and boating in his spare time. The MTA selection committee chose Chudobiak among 12 Driver of the Month award winners over the course of the past year.
