Nation’s top drivers rewarded

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — The National Truck Driving Championships were held here this weekend with the winners of each provincial championships on-hand to represent their province.

The Grand Champion was Michel Laplante of Hector Larivee in Quebec, driving in the straight truck category. Rookie of the Year was Labatt’s Brewery’s Stephane Cousineau in the single-single competition, also of Quebec. And the Province of Quebec won the Team Championship.

This year’s winners included: Kevin Pasini, Sokil Group, Alberta, step van; Laplante, Hector Larivee, Quebec, straight truck; Harvey Gording, Reimer Express Lines, Saskatchewan, single-tandem; Cousineau, Labatt’s Brewery, Quebec, single-single; Don Mason, Loblaws Co. East, Ontario, tandem-tandem; Doug Pettitt, SLH Transport, Ontario, b-train.

Next year’s National Championships will take place in Moncton, N.B. where they’ll be hosted by the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association.
