CHATHAM, Ont. — Navistar will lay off 470 employees at its truck plant here, according to a report by the Canadian Press.

The news agency reports layoff notices were doled out today. The job cuts will begin Jan. 31 and will reduce the workforce there to about 400.

“They are telling us the economy has gone in a nosedive and the orders have dried up over the last few months,” CAW rep Joe McCabe told the London Free Press. “It is devastating news for the workers and the whole community here.”
