NB weight limits lifted early

FREDERICTON — Spring weight restrictions will be lifted from all New Brunswick highways this Sunday, May 20.

Transportation Minister Denis Landry announced that the weight restrictions will be removed at midnight on that date in southern New Brunswick, as well as in northern New Brunswick. “This is seven days earlier than anticipated in northern New Brunswick,” he said.

Weight restrictions for trucks are imposed each year to protect highway infrastructure from damage during the spring thaw. Traditionally, these restrictions are removed in mid-May.

Should weather conditions warrant, district engineers are authorized to close roads to trucks or to impose weight restrictions on highways or portions of highways at any time to protect highway infrastructure.
