Great Dane Limited has unveiled an “Advanced Technology” version of its SuperSeal XLT reefer trailer, which incorporates advanced materials and systems to provide unparalleled safety, maintenance and performance benefits to the end user.

The company says the strength of a refrigerated trailer is its insulation system. It combines the SuperSeal’s industry leading, high-pressure poured-in-place urethane with state-of-the-art vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) furnished by SAES Getters USA of Colorado Springs, Colo. By combining these two systems the resulting trailer achieves an insulation value heretofore only attainable with much thicker conventional urethane insulated walls.

The “Tech” Trailer features an advanced ABS system, Electronic Leveling Module and Integrated Vehicle Tire Monitoring System from Meritor WABCO; and Hendrickson Turner’s VANTRAAX HKA 180 suspension system, including hub temperature sensors, disk brakes with lining wear sensors, the HT cam tube system, a special leveling system called DST (Dock Stabilizing Technology) and a unique system set-up to allow use of the Michelin X One Super Single tires.

Also introduced are extensive communication capabilities of the Technology Vehicle, which showcases a variety of communications options. Through a cooperative effort involving engineers from Great Dane, Volvo Trucks, Thermo King, Meritor WABCO and Hendrickson International, drivers can readily detect critical trailer conditions, adjust the trailer suspension system and determine reefer fuel level and trailer interior temperatures all from the driver’s seat and while on the road. The Technology Vehicle also is capable of communicating information and problems to dispatch or even another vehicle via either a satellite-tracking device or an RF communication link.
