New Cancom satellite strengthens service in Eastern Canada
MISSISSAUGA, ONT. (Mar. 10, 2005) – Cancom Tracking has announced that its satellite-based OmniTRACS mobile communications solution has increased coverage due to the successful transfer to Telesat’s Anik F2 satellite.
Cancom’s OmniTRACS is now operating on Anik F2, the world’s largest commercial communications satellite, the company says. Cancom says its customers have been experiencing improved service across North America — especially in the Canadian east coast and St. John’s, Nfld. — since the new satellite has been in operation. It also has increased message delivery speed due to stronger satellite signal strength.
Ralston Armour, vice-president of 2,300-unit fleet Armour Transportation in Moncton, N.B. said in a press release, “We had been anticipating the launch of
Anik F2 because Armour would benefit from the increased coverage the new satellite would provide.
“We have noticed a considerable increase in coverage since the launch of the new satellite and our drivers and dispatchers from our three offices in Newfoundland have benefited the most from the substantial improvement in the coverage,” said Armour, whose company has been using Cancom’s OmniTRACS for eight years.
“There are guidelines in terms of the life expectancy of a satellite and we have been preparing for this transition for years,” said Mike Ham, Cancom Tracking vice-president. “Because our customers’ businesses depend on the level of service they receive, it is our top priority to have the latest technology in place.”
