New FAST lane added to Queenston-Lewiston Bridge

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. (Mar. 21, 2005) — A fifth, truck-only lane is being added to the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, the Ontario and federal governments announced last week.

According to a press release, the new lane will be used by pre-approved carriers and drivers under the FAST program. The addition is expected to cost about $45 million, shared equally by both governments and the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission.

Major work by Rankin Construction of St. Catharines is underway, with completion slated for December 2005. This work follows the recent completion of the addition of two new truck lanes to Hwy. 405, the main corridor leading to the bridge.

The Government of Canada’s investment comes from the $600 million Border Infrastructure Fund.
