TORONTO, Ont. — 407 ETR announced the completion of a two-year project to add 100 kilometres of new lanes between Highways 401 and 404.

Opening in stages as construction progressed, the final 27 kilometres of new lanes, between Highways 401 and 410 in Peel Region, were completed ahead of schedule.

“This is great news for 407 ETR customers and good news for all drivers in the GTA,” said Antonio de Santiago, president and CEO of 407 ETR. “The opening of these lanes will increase traffic capacity through the busiest section of our highway by 33% – and that will also help relieve congestion on other public highways and roads.”

Building 100 kilometres of new lanes down the centre median of an existing six-lane freeway, handling over 400,000 trips on an average workday, was a big undertaking.

407 ETR is the operator and manager of Highway 407, which extends 108 kilometres east-west, just north of Toronto.
