New minister takes over Ontario transport portfolio

TORONTO – In an effort to drive the Ontario government’s economic, education and green energy agenda, Premier Dalton McGuinty shuffled his cabinet recently.

In total, 12 ministers were given new responsibilities, including Kathleen Wynne, MPP Don Valley West, who takes over as the Minister of Transportation.

The former Transport Minister Jim Bradley has become the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

In Wynne’s new capacity, the government says she will help implement the government’s MoveOntario 2020 public transit plan, improve service-delivery at GO Transit and work with municipalities to build and maintain the highways and bridges that are critical to our economic success.

Wynne moves from the education portfolio, and according to a story in the Toronto Star, she is seen as a future leadership hopeful, had wanted an economic portfolio to bolster her political credentials.
