VANCOUVER, B.C. — CleanAir Logix of Oakland, Calif. has ordered nine Kenworth T800 heavy-duty liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks made by Westport Innovations for deployment at the Port of Oakland.

The LNG trucks, which feature high pressure direct injection (HPDI) technology, were created by Westport Innovations, a provider of alternative fuel, low-emissions transportation technologies.

The Port of Oakland oversees the Oakland seaport, Oakland International Airport and 20 miles of waterfront, and is considered the fifth busiest container port in the US. The port will use the trucks for hauling containers to and from the seaport, in an effort to promote air quality for that community.

“We are working to find responsible solutions meeting the needs of the port and its neighbours,” said Omar R. Benjamin, the executive director at the Port of Oakland. “These LNG trucks will help support our goal, that by the year 2020, the Port of Oakland will have cut the health risk from diesel particulate matter at our seaport by 85%.”

Westport recently announced that Total Transportation Services operates eight Kenworth T800 LNG trucks, at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Westport is pleased to have its product going into operation in another busy California port, according to Michael Gallagher, the president and chief operating officer of Westport Innovations.
