TORONTO, Ont. — Ontario’s new Transportation Minister, Harinder Takhar, will deliver his first official address at the OTA convention Thursday.

Minister Takhar will begin speaking at 10:45 am during the convention’s Opening Ceremony and Kick-off, Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road, Toronto, in Hall A/B.
The annual three-day convention draws thousands of trucking industry leaders from across Canada and the United States. The 77th convention of the Ontario Trucking Association takes place November 12 14, Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road.

This year’s convention features more business sessions than ever to choose from, an outstanding line-up of thought-provoking speakers, and excellent entertainment.

OTA members haul 75 per cent of the province’s goods moved by truck, generating about $5 billion a year in sales. In Ontario, the trucking industry employs more than 240,000 people, almost five per cent of the province’s labour force. Approximately 80 per cent of Ontario’s trade with the United States is carried by truck with more than six million trucks crossing the Ontario-U.S. border each year.
