New UCR enforcement begins in July

WASHINGTON — The administrators of the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) agreement  has recommended that participating states delay hard enforcement of the new 2010 UCRA fees until July 15, 2010.

According to a recent American Trucking Associations’ newsletter, registered carriers will be contacted by May 28 with information on the new payment structure.

Although states are not bound by these dates, they are not expected to begin enforcement before the middle of July. Payments for 2010 are already being accepted, though.

In April, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced the new fees will be almost double. For large carriers (over 1,000 straight trucks or tractors) the annual levy jumps from $37,500 to $73,346.

Trailers, however, are no longer part of the fleet calculation.
