Nissan hopes to join Hino-Isuzu bus venture
TOKYO (Jan. 5, 2000) — Nissan Diesel Motor Co. intends to join a plan by Hino Motors Ltd. and Isuzu Motors Ltd. to integrate their bus businesses, according to several newspaper reports last week.
Nissan Diesel, which makes a reported 800 buses a year, plans to transfer the development and production divisions in its bus business to a joint company to be formed by Hino and Isuzu.
With bus production sagging in Japan, Hino and Isuzu announced last month that they will set up an equally owned joint company next year to cut development and production costs.
