Noah News is Good News: Flood recedes, road opens

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — If it’s not one thing tying up traffic, it’s another.

Sunday night, a flatbed load of tires burst into flames near Woodstock, N.B. and shut down the Trans-Canada for a few hours. Happily, there were no injuries.

Then, Monday morning, the St. John River strutted its spring stuff and overflowed so badly that the westbound lanes of the same highway, not far from the Quebec border, had to be closed for a few hours.

However, it’s back open, according to a spokesman for the province’s emergency measures department.

Currently, he says the biggest flood that drivers have to worry about is what he referred to as “flood tourists;” i.e., people who tie up traffic because they’re bent on seeing what the flood waters of the past two days have done in the area. (This from the province that brings you the Reversing Falls and the Magnetic Hill.)

Otherwise, he said, truckers should consider driving through the province business as usual.
