YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. — The Northwest Territories Business Coalition recently visited Ottawa to plead for more federal infrastructure investments in the territories.

Federal Infrastructure Minister, Allan Rock, told the coalition there’s no more federal money available for the N.W.T.’s Corridors for Canada proposal, providing the coalition with a setback.

“It appears it will take longer than I would have wished to secure additional investment, but I am encouraged that Minister Rock has agreed to work with the GNWT in considering our infrastructure needs in the federal planning of a 10 year infrastructure program which was announced in the recent Throne Speech,” says N.W.T. Finance Minister, Joe Handley.

N.W.T. Premier, Stephen Kakfwi says the mission to Ottawa wasn’t in vain.

“We have made a strong impression in Ottawa about the national importance of strategic infrastructure investments in the Northwest Territories,” he says. “We need to remain determined. We need to keep working to find additional sources of infrastructure funding.”
