YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. — Northwest Territories Deputy Premier, Jim Antoine, recently returned from an oil and gas conference in Calgary where he touted a one point plan to get natural gas to market.

In response to Alaska’s 10-point plan to make a Alaska Hwy. pipeline a reality, Antoine says his government has developed a straightforward plan.

"It is a stand alone Mackenzie Valley gas pipeline and it is the only economical option to get Arctic gas to market," says Antoine.

He adds that the NWT plan would also accommodate Alaskan gas and allow a secure and affordable corridor to get Alaskan gas to market. He did, however, add that "We believe that major resource development projects must proceed on their own economic merits."
