Oil futures reach nine-year high

NEW YORK (Feb. 23, 2000) — NYMEX crude oil futures jumped to a new nine-year-high, amid concern that an expected increase in OPEC production this spring will be insufficient to meet demand.

Expiring March crude ended up 44 cents at $29.95 US per barrel, and peaked at $30.30.
