TORONTO, Ont. – OK Transportation has donated a 1992 Mack Truck to Emery Collegiate Institute students hoping to train for apprenticeships as truck and coach technicians.

The rig’s unveiling today kicked off the school’s Trades Carousel, a one-day fair of trade and apprenticeship options for students. Emery ECI’s Trades Carousel provides the opportunity for students, staff, parents and community partners to explore viable career and educational options within the trades and related industries. Youth employment specialists and representatives from construction and transportation trades will present labour market information to increase student interest and awareness about careers in various fields.

Since the school began a partnership with the Automotive Transportation Service Superintendents’ Association, educational and employment opportunities have expanded for Emery CI’s students. Future stages in this school-to-work transition program will include work experience opportunities at partnership companies, part-time after-school employment and cooperative education placements with a focus on apprenticeship programs.

The 1992 Mack will serve as a teaching resource to support the Truck and Coach Technician Apprenticeship developed as a school-to-work transition program for students. It will be unveiled during a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m.
