Ontario names 07 National Driving Championships team

WINDSOR, Ont. — The Ontario Truck Driving Championships were held July 13-15, with winners moving on to the National Truck Driving Championships in Saskatchewan later this year.

Grand champion at the event was Wayne Burnett of Rothsay Maple Leaf Foods. Rookie of the Year was Joe Nagy of Reimer Express and Ron Hughes of Con-Way Freight won the High Points category.

Other winners included: Wayne Wedow, Purolator, Step Van; Joe Kuntz, Koch Transport, Straight Truck; Ron Hughes, Con-Way Freight, Single-Single; Mike Goodyear, Maple Leaf Foods, Single-Tamdem; Jeff MacLean, SLH Transport, Tandem-Tandem; and Wayne Burnett, Rothsay Maple Leaf Foods, B-train.

Bert Weykamp of Reimer Express won the MTO Safety Award and the Perfect Pre-Trip Award went to: Adam Brewster; Wayne Burnett; Mike Goodyear; Bert Weykamp; and Bryon Winfield.
