OPP launches 24-hour crackdown on 401
TORONTO, (Sept. 21, 2004) – Truckers hauling in Ontario should expect to see flashing red lights on several sections of the 801-km stretch of Hwy. 401 from Windsor to the Quebec border beginning tonight.
In a 24-hour traffic safety blitz titled Operation Corridor, Ontario Provincial Police be targeting speeding motorists and “unfit” trucks traveling on the entire stretch.
Police will also be targeting drivers on the Northern Ontario section of the Trans Canada highway, the Niagara section of the Queen Elizabeth Way and Highway 417 in Ottawa. The program begins at 6:00 p.m.
At least 200 OPP officers as well as the RCMP and Ontario Ministry of Transportation commercial vehicle inspectors will be patrolling the highway beginning at 6:00 p.m.
