OTA begins search for Driver of the Year

TORONTO — Do one of your truck drivers or owner-ops have what it takes to be Ontario Driver of the Year?

The Ontario Trucking Association and Volvo Trucks Canada are now accepting nominations for the prestigious annual award.
The OTA is looking for drivers or owner-ops working for member fleets who deserve to be recognized because of their collision-free driving record and exemplary professionalism both on and off the road.

The deadline to fill out and submit a nomination form October 18, 2010.

To be eligible, drivers need to be regularly employed for the past five years with no preventable collisions.

Judges will evaluate the driver’s active participation in highway safety programs and initiatives, truck driving championships, driver training programs, first-aid courses, examples of unusual courtesy extended to other road users, customer commendations, and acts of bravery or kindness arising out of highway incidents.

The winner receives a keepsake plaque engraved with the recipient’s name and a cheque for $500 courtesy of Volvo Trucks Canada as well as a trip to the OTA Convention in Toronto in November for the driver and a guest where the award will be presented.

Nominations can be found online by clicking here.
