OTA doles out the hardware

TORONTO, Ont. — The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) presented several prestigious industry awards at its annual convention yesterday.

Ed Connors, a 19-year driving veteran with more than 1.6 million accident free kilometres under his belt was named the 2002 OTA/Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year. Connors drives for Molson Canada.

Meanwhile Martin Baumber was presented with the Bridgestone/Firestone Canadian Truck Hero Award, thanks to his actions July 31 when he saved two drivers from a burning car wreck.

Muskoka Transport’s Paul Hammond received the 2002 Trailmobile Service to the Industry Award. Hammond has demonstrated leadership, vision and commitment to the trucking industry throughout his 25-year career.

This was the first year the OTA awarded the OTA/Cancom Tracking Dispatcher of the Year Award, and it was presented to Matt Budd, a dispatcher with J&R Hall Transport.
