OTA Education Foundation extends 50-50 Donation Challenge

TORONTO, Ont. — The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) Education Foundation is extending an opportunity to “double your donation” up until the end of the school year.

The association launched its ‘50-50 Donation Challenge’ at its convention last November, as part of the foundation’s 50th anniversary. An anonymous donor said he or she would match any donations up to $50,000 by June 30. However, now that offer has been extended.

“We believe that this opportunity is too good to turn off the switch at this time,” said foundation chairman Scott Smith, president of J. D. Smith and Sons. “We recognize that the downturn in the economy may have had an impact on our ability to reach our goal by March 31, so we feel very fortunate that our campaign partner has agreed to extend the deadline to June 30. We are hopeful that the trucking industry will step up and help us reach our $50,000 goal, so that it can be matched by another $50,000 as a way of marking 50 years of helping postsecondary students.”

The OTA Education Foundation awards several scholarships per year to students who have parents working in the trucking industry. To make a contribution, visit www.ontruck.org/education/foundation.
