OTA Sets Meeting on Labor Policy, Related Issues

TORONTO — The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) will be hosting a meeting next month of its labor council to brief carrier members on recent trends involving labor policy and issues at both the federal and provincial levels.

Both member and non-member carriers are invited to attend the meeting, free of charge, on Oct. 13 from 10:00am to 2:00 pm at the OTA headquarters.

Issues to be covered include:

  • Current federal labor priorities, such as blitzes and independent contractors;
  • Goods and Services tax (GST) and Harmonized Sale Tax (HST) audits;
  • What OTA has learned about the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), federal over-time surveys and the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan; and
  • An update on mandatory entry level training in Ontario, and an overview of the Worker Safety and Insurance Board’s (WSIB) rate framework review.

According to the group, carrier staff, especially those whose day-to-day functions are related to these are other similar issues, are likely to benefit from the meeting.
