Overnite buys Motor Cargo

OMAHA, Neb. (Oct. 16, 2001) — Overnite Holdings, the truck unit of Union Pacific Corp., said yesterday it will buy Motor Cargo Industries for about $80 million US in a deal aimed at extending Overnite’s reach into the western market.

Based in Salt Lake City, Motor Cargo is a western motor carrier providing services throughout 10 western states. Overnite provides regional, inter-regional, and longhaul service in 32 states east of the Rockies.
