Oversize/Overweight: MTO Overwhelmed

TORONTO, Ont. — Carriers are being urged to only submit permit requests for essential movements. The MTO warned today their system is close to breaking down.

OTA says it was successful in working with the provincial government to ensure that a limited number of O/O permits for high priority moves be issued during the ongoing electricity crisis. But this morning MTO indicated that they have been overwhelmed with permit requests, many of them for non-essential movements.

MTO officials say they will do their best to promptly issue permits but if they are overwhelmed with requests the system will break down and all permit issuing will stop. MTO is requesting that if the load can wait until after the emergency has passed, that carriers work with their customers to delay these movements.
