Paccar, baseball club in same dugout for literacy program

BELLEVUE, Wash.– Truckmaker Paccar and Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners hope a new multi-year partnership is a homerun for literacy and education.

The Page Ahead program will support child and family literacy by delivering millions of books statewide.

“This partnership will set another milestone by purchasing more than 45,000 books for children,” said Chuck Armstrong, Mariners president and COO.

Through the Paccar RBIs for Literacy program, the Paccar Foundation will donate $100 to Page Ahead for each run batted in by a Mariner player during the season. PACCAR will also sponsor three book drives at Safeco Field in Seattle during the season to collect new children’s books for donation to Page Ahead.

“For over 100 years, Paccar has been a leader in applied technology on a worldwide basis. Education provides the foundation for the development and implementation of leading-edge technology,” said Mark Pigott, chairman and CEO of Paccar, which makes Kenworth and Peterbilt brand trucks.
