FORT ERIE, Ont. — Improvements to the Peace Bridge Plaza, including construction of a new primary inspection lane and booth for Canada-bound commercial vehicles, have been completed.

The occasion was marked today by local and national dignitaries.

“The Peace Bridge is the third busiest Canada-US commercial truck crossing and a key component for international trade with the United States,” said MP Rob Nicholson. “These improvements will enhance the efficiency and security of this important trade corridor, while contributing to Canada’s long-term economic prosperity.”

In addition to the new commercial vehicle inspection lane and booth, the upgrades also included a designated Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS) area. The $2-million project was cost-shared between the feds and the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority.

  • I was hauling strawberries up from Plant City Florida to Loblaws In Cambridge Ontario when I was called in to inspect my load at the Fort Erie Inspection site. After inspecting my load the Officer went thru my trucks sleeper area for 20
Minutes and stole my $500 Leopold Binoculars and my $120 Buck knife with a window breaker and seat belt cutter for rescuing people in auto accidents. I hope that this guy with a badges family dies in a fiery car accident where someone can’t access the vehicle by cutting their seatbelts or break their window to save them. Who knows what else this dude stole from my truck that I haven’t discovered or other truck drivers trucks, must be a pretty lucrative gig. NAFTA means free trade and not monopolizing a trucking lane. Good luck to you folks up there in Canada as I’m sure one of your own drivers will haul the strawberries and other produce up to feed yourselves from now on.
