Peace Bridge overweight loads program suspended

FORT ERIE, Ont.– The Peace Bridge has agreed to a minimum two-week moratorium on advanced notification for commercial vehicles over 80,000 lbs.

The authority announced the decision recently after meeting with the Ontario Trucking Association to discuss the negative impacts such a requirement would have on industry.

OTA and Peace Bridge Authority staff have agreed to work cooperatively over during the moratorium to develop an overweight screening process that works for both industry and the Peace Bridge.

But commercial carriers in excess of 130,000 pounds are still required to provide three days advanced notification and are subject to an engineering review to determine whether they can safely cross the Peace Bridge structure.

Carriers in excess of 130,000 pounds must still complete a form and submit it via fax to the Peace Bridge Capital Projects Manager at 716-882-5596.

For information, or to find out how to obtain a copy of the form call 905-871-1608 ext. 234
