DENTON, Tex. — Bringing increased durability, maneuverability and wheel cut to heavy-duty vocational applications, Sheppard Dual Steering Gears are now available on Peterbilt conventionals.

The optional dual steering gears provide improved turning radius by eliminating the power-steering assist cylinder, giving the front wheels more room to turn. Removing the assist cylinder has no impact on turning power or performance, according to the manufacturer, which adds it also reduces maintenance requirements.

“By improving wheel cut by up to 10 per cent in certain configurations, the new Sheppard Dual Steering Gears will help customers overcome the challenges of limited workspace and may improve productivity through faster load-unload cycles,” says Dan Sobic, Peterbilt assistant general manager.

“Additionally, the dual steering gears increase the overall robustness of the steering system, further reducing ownership costs.”

Sheppard Dual Steering Gears are available for Peterbilt Models 385, 379, 378 and 357 in most configurations.
