Petro-Can, Suncor merger gets green light

CALGARY — In a near unanimous vote, shareholders of Petro-Canada and Suncor Energy overwhelmingly approved the merger negotiated between the two oil companies back in March.

The deal is still subject to all regulatory approvals and review by the Canadian Competition Bureau, but will more than likely be rubberstamped.

Over 98 percent of Suncor shareholders and 96 percent of Petro-Canada investors voted for the merger to proceed at their respective shareholder meetings this past weekend.

The merged company will keep the Suncor name and will retain the Petro-Canada retail brand.
