Pocket Pal
Caterpillar released a version of its Pocket Technician diagnostics tool that gives fleet managers “read-and-change” capability on truck engine parameters.
The company’s “fleet” edition of the software builds on the original aimed at single-truck operators. It provides basic operating information about an engine; active diagnostic codes; read-and-change capability on more than 50 engine parameters; maintenance information; and a theft deterrent. You can also view logged diagnostic information and save and print data for multiple trucks. Another facet of the software helps you build a driver rewards program by setting goals, measuring driving performance, and scoring individual drivers.
Truck owners with the original one-truck edition can upgrade their software to the fleet version.
Pocket Technician runs on the Palm OS and uses a Palm handheld computer. Cat supplies the software, a plug-in power adapter, and a cable to connect the Palm device to the truck.
