CASTLEGAR, B.C. — B.C. Premier, Gordon Campbell, visited Castlegar last week to announce $609 million in upgrades for Interior roads.

Of that, $210 million will go towards rural, remote and resource roads as well as constructing a new bridge at Needles, south of Nakusp. Campbell says the increased spending will help open up B.C.’s heartland.

Oil and gas roads will receive $37 million in upgrades.

"The province is investing $609 million in heartland roads over the next three years to help open up our province and revitalize the economy," says Campbell.

The majority of the funding is being generated by the province’s fuel taxes.
