REGINA, Sask. — There has been a new development in the ongoing search for alternative solutions to upgrading and improving Saskatchewan’s crumbling thin-membrane surfaced (TMS) roads.

Pavement Scientific International (PSI) will begin experimenting with flyash, supplied by SaskPower International.

The flyash will be blended with some other materials, then applied to TMS roads to help strengthen them. There are about 7,500 km of TMS roads in the province, and many of them are unable to deal with an increase in truck traffic.

“This project illustrates how private industry and government, working together, can provide integrated design-supply solutions to meet the infrastructure needs of Saskatchewan,” says PSI president, Curtis Berthelot. “And as we prove this technology here at home, we look forward to working with SaskPower International on exploring future opportunities beyond our borders.”

PSI is a Saskatchewan-based company specializing in finding cost-effective alternatives to strengthening roads.
