Reed named CEO of Freightliner Custom Chassis, Thomas Built Buses
Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) has appointed T.J. Reed as the new president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Freightliner Custom Chassis and Thomas Built Buses, effective Sept. 9.
Reed will oversee all strategic, sales, and operational aspects of the two brands within DTNA, succeeding Kevin Bangston, who was recently named president and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services North America.
He brings more than 25 years of experience in the trucking industry, having joined DTNA in 1998 as a custom application engineer for vocational trucks. He has held various leadership roles in product marketing, strategy, pricing, and P&L responsibilities within the company. Before his latest appointment, Reed served as president of Daimler Truck Remarketing and the SelecTrucks brand.
According to a news release, Reed also spent six years with Meritor in senior roles, including vice-president of global business development for electrification.
“T.J.’s broad experience across the industry, as well as his exceptional customer focus, makes him the perfect fit for this role,” said Jeff Allen, senior vice-president of operations and specialty vehicles at DTNA, in a release. “His expertise and personality will enable him to drive innovation and growth for both companies.”
“With his vision and holistic approach to operations he will be a valuable asset to these already strong businesses – and help continue to pave the way to sustainable transportation,” added John O’Leary, president and CEO of DTNA.

I would love to see more input from the mechanic s that are working on these unit on a dailey basis when these custom chassis and busses are being built. Let’s make it just as easy to repair these unit as it is to build them outside the chassis. My Opinion 26 years with Daimler Freightliner
