OTTAWA, Ont. — Canada’s Transport Minister, Lawrence Cannon, is getting a promotion according to media reports.

Reports in national media have suggested Cannon will be named Foreign Affairs Minister during a major Cabinet shuffle today. It’s expected that Environment Minister John Baird will take over the transport department.

Baird should be busy in his new post, as the newly re-elected Conservative government is expected to make major infrastructure investments over the coming years. Baird represents Ottawa West-Nepean. He began serving as a Member of Provincial Parliament in 1995 and joined the House of Commons in 2006, according to his biography.

In provincial politics, he served as Government House Leader, Minister of Community and Social Services and Minister of Energy. Baird headed the federal Conservatives’ anti-corruption legislation, the Federal Accountability Act.
