PORTLAND, Ore. — Freightliner has appointed Rich Ferguson as the new leader of its used truck business, Freightliner Market Development Corporation (FMDC).

Ferguson will replace Bill Gordon, former president of FMDC immediately, the company reports. Gordon, a 30 year veteran with Freightliner, will be taking on a strategic project on behalf of the company.

Gordon was the first president of FMDC and he led the creation of SelecTrucks, Freightliner’s used truck distribution network, which now has 41 outlets in the U.S. and Canada.

“Bill Gordon has had a long and distinguished career with Freightliner LLC in a number of executive positions,” said Chris Patterson, president and CEO of Freightliner LLC. “He guided FMDC through the used truck industry downturn earlier this decade and has grown SelecTrucks into North America’s largest used truck network. Today, our used truck business is a significant contributor to the overall company.”

Ferguson said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Gordon and further expand the used truck product offering. Increasing SelecTrucks’ inventory selection and expanding its lease and warranty options will be among his priorities.

“Freightliner’s used truck business provides a valuable service to our customers in every cycle of their business, whether they’re seeking quality used vehicles or looking for an outlet for their trades,” said Ferguson. “We want to increase our customer base by adding more medium-duty trucks, day cabs and Sterling and Western Star vehicles.”
