Ridewell self-steers towards growing trailer need

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Building off the success of its RLT-230 LIGHT-TRAC self-steering truck-mount suspension system, Ridewell has designed a trailer version with the same performance characteristics.

The model RLT-230-S offers an integrated lift unit and includes suspension, brakes and fully-dressed fabricated axle. It may be used in the pusher or tag position and is rated at 13,200lb cap.

Most visibly different in the trailer version is the 70.06-inch KPI straight axle design compared to the drop center axle on the truck-mount version. The strongest advantage though, is the 12.5- to 18-in. range of mounting heights offered. With these tall mounting heights no sub-frames or spacers are required for installation, reducing unnecessary weight and cost.

Further advantages are the unit’s 27 degree wheel cut and its compact 21.8-in. package space. The pre-assembled, parallelogram-designed RLT-230-S self-steers with constant axle caster which comes pre-set, as does the alignment.

The system keeps axles on the ground when cornering for tight turning and allows tires to consistently track with the trailer, virtually eliminating tire scrub.

Other features include 38- to 44-in. frame widths, urethane bushings, dual self-centering stabilizers and 15×4 S-cam brakes with auto-slacks and 20-in. chambers. Weight of the entire unit ranges from 874 – 917lb depending on wheel end equipment selected.
