ST. JOHN’S, Nfld. — Funds from the 2003-04 provincial capital roads program have been allocated to conduct road upgrades in the Exploits district.

Jim Walsh, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, along with Premier Roger Grimes, MHA for Exploits, recently announced the department’s plans to pulverize and pave various sections of Route 350 between the Trans Canada Highway and Botwood for a total distance of approximately 3.3 km and approximately 0.85 kilometres through Point Leamington.

“The Department is committed to providing the province of Newfoundland and Labrador with a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system,” said Walsh. “These projects will certainly improve local roads in the Exploits area."

This investment will result in a considerable improvement in the quality of roads in the District of Exploits, said Premier Grimes. It will enhance the safety of the traveling public and will help enhance tourism in the area.

Grimes said the contract for this project has been awarded and work is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks.
