STRATHMORE, Alta. — An Alberta man woke up to sound of an explosion as a set of dual wheels off a semi truck flew through his front door and landed in his kitchen, according to a report from The Huffington Post.

The tires came off of a tractor-trailer unit north on Highway 24 just outside the town east of Calgary at about 6 a.m.

Bill Oriold climbed out of bed, smelled burning smoke and said he thought his furnace must have blown up.

“You could smell the heat off them,” he said in the Huffington report.

Oriold said the tires shot about a half a kilometre through a neighbour’s fence before busting down his door.

The 180-kilogram wheels caused about $40,000 in structural damage to the home, and four firefighters had to carry them out of the house.

Oriold said RCMP told him the truck driver made it to Edmonton before realizing the tires were missing.

Oriold’s wife and 16-year-old granddaughter were not hurt.

How lucky no one got killed, This should be a wake up call
to Service Managers, Mechanics, and all service repair outlets, a solution to this is to have the mechanic and foreman or service manager, check to see that all lock rings, or nuts or cotter pins are in place and bearings are set correctly .Then both signing that this has been done. if bearings are not set correctly or no oil has been put in the hub , this will result in bearing failure and cause the bearings to heat up and the wheel run off, So many times this happens and so far a dual set of tires and hub assembly
have not hit other vehicles on the road,

Wait did this really happen? Is his home located near a freeway, and how did the tires come off the tractor trailer? That would be quite the rude awakening to that coming through your front door. Good thing no one got hurt! What kind of damage did it cause to the structure of the home?
