Sask gets tough collecting owed traffic fines

REGINA — Saskatchewan has struck a deal with Canada Revenue Agency to withhold tax refunds and GST rebates from drivers who have outstanding traffic fines in the province.

The agreement is effective this coming tax season and applies to all fines laid under provincial statutes. CRA will garnish the returns for unpaid fines.

The province has also set up a Fine Collection branch to go after driver who haven’t paid their tickets.
