REGINA, Sask. — In what has become a winter tradition, the Saskatchewan Department of Highways has released a winter tender schedule.

The winter tender schedule is intended to give road construction companies a running start on next year’s highways projects, while minimizing the damage done to roads by allowing the transportation of gravel and supplies during the winter months while the ground is frozen, rather than in the spring.

This year’s winter tender schedule includes 36 projects valued at $70.9-million.

"Having another substantial winter tender schedule demonstrates the priority we place on transportation in or province," says Highways and Transportation Minister, Mark Wartman. "Our budget of $293-million this year shows the government is committed to building better highways. This schedule also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to invest in highway infrastructure improvements that support the provincial economy."

Some of the projects up for grabs include 292km of pavement resurfacing on 15 highways, 157km of improvements to 10 thin-membrane surface corridors, 25km of grading on Hwy. 123 and Hwy. 969, 17km of widening and resurfacing and $8.2 million in gravel stockpiling.
