Schneider Streamlines Cross-Border Intermodal Service

GREEN BAY, WI – The freight transporter Schneider Intermodal said this week it has streamlined the process for shipping select commodities that originate in Canada or the U.S. and move into Mexico via rail that previously required additional handling at the U.S. border.

Working with Mexico’s Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad, y Calidad Agroalimentaria, (SENASICA), Schneider Intermodal can now move peat moss, pet food, soy bean flour and cream substitutes across the border with inspections in Mexico instead of at the border.

Simplifying this process saves cross-border shippers time and money, according to the company.

SENASICA, Mexico’s equivalent of Health Canada or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, regulates, manages and promotes activities of health, safety and food quality.

The initial four commodities are part of a pilot program for streamlined border crossings. Additional commodities are expected to be added when the pilot concludes, according to Schneider.

This service is effective immediately and takes place at the Puerta intermodal terminal in Toluca, Mexico.
