Second association meeting slated for Sept. 13

MORRIS, Man. — A group of drivers and owner/operators attempting to launch an association will be meeting Sept. 13 to hold elections.

Emile Dupuis, a driver with Paul Brandt Trucking in Morris says the group already has 30 members and is prepared to move forward with its agenda. The Sept. 13 meeting, held at 12 noon at Burke’s Hotel and Diner in Morris, will allow potential new members to attend to find out what the group is all about and to vote for a president and vice-president. The association, tentatively called the Professional Drivers’ Association, already has a secretary in place.

"We’ve had a very good response so far," says Dupuis. "Everybody feels we do need an association and we do need to be represented."

Some of the issues the group plans to attack are meal allowances, hours-of-service and extending the maximum allowable wheelbase across Canada (this will enable show’n’shine competitors to drive their show rigs to events without permits.)

For more information about the meeting, or to attend, call Dupuis at 204-746-7764 or 204-758-3253. Truck parking will be available across the street from the hotel.
